Austria, with its well-developed market economy and high standard of living, is closely tied to other EU economies, especially Germany's. Membership in the EU has drawn an influx of foreign investors attracted by Austria's access to the single European market and proximity to the new EU economies. The poor growth values in the world economy and the neighbour-country Germany let the Austrian economy grow from the year 2001 to 2003 on average only about 1% annually. The current data however send positive signals and allow to expect that the economy recovers. The government counts on a growth of 1.7 - 2.1% in 2004 and about 2.5% in 2005...
